Juneau

Meet Juneau!

Status: Available for adoption

Age: 4

Gender: Mare
Breed: Grade
Height: 14.1hh

Juneau is a re-rescue. Her first rescue situation did not provide the care she needed, so we took her under our wing in March of 2021. Juneau came to us with a serious untended knee injury, but first we needed to convince her that humans aren’t so bad in order to get close. After volunteers built enough trust to be able to get her in a halter and allow us to touch her, x-rays revealed that she has severe and untreatable arthritis in her knee that limits her range of motion and effectively eliminates her prospects for riding.

We began training work with her in ground driving, however, we feel her longevity will be improved without asking her to work.

Despite her arthritis, however, Juneau is a vibrant soul with tons of energy who loves to play and would make an excellent buddy for a horse needing company. She is an easy-keeper who halters and leads well and stands for the farrier.

Juneau is available for adoption as a companion horse (non-riding/non-work) horse only. She will need a special home that understands that she just needs a soft place to land for however long she is able to remain relatively pain-free. Adoption will be by special contract with the provision that Mountain Shadows can assist with monitoring her condition and providing humane euthanasia when her condition requires prevention of suffering. Help us give this beautiful girl a loving home where she can live her best life!
