Sedona was rescued from a livestock auction where she was dumped with fellow broodmare Opal, along with dozens of others from her herd. She was heavily pregnant and ready to deliver. We were initially very worried about her and the baby’s health since she was underweight, malnourished, and suffering from a respiratory infection. However, she waited an extra week to deliver, until she felt safe with us at MSER, where she had access to plentiful food, water, and shelter, and safely delivered a healthy baby colt on May 27th, 2023.

Sedona is a darling mare who loves pets and attention. Sedona has just completed her second semester at Colorado State University’s Right Horse Program, where she received more consistent work and training in haltering, handling, groundwork, and being under saddle and ridden bareback! Sedona is easy to handle on the ground, has the most laid back personality, and her calm and willing attitude make her an excellent choice for any level handler or rider! Young and athletic, she also has the potential to do so much more! 

Sedona has been treated for ocular squamous cell carcinoma, which was an overwhelming success. The clinical trial treatment shrank the cancer to completion in one eye, and in the other eye, the cancer was small enough to be removed alone, without the need to remove her eye. This is the gold standard treatment. 

Sedona will still need to be continually watched for any signs that the cancer is returning, and will need to continue to wear a UV protective mask during all daytime hours, all year round.
