Sedona

Sedona

Age: 11
Gender: Mare
Breed: Appaloosa
Height: 14.2hh

Adopter Level Needed: Confident Intermediate

Adoption fee: $1,000

Sedona is a darling mare who loves pets and attention. After finishing a successful semester in Colorado State University’s Right Horse Program, where she received more consistent work and training in haltering, handling, and groundwork. Sedona is easy to handle on the ground, and having mastered her groundwork skills, has moved on to being started under saddle.

This summer, we have arranged for Sedona to stay down in Colorado to continue her training with the same student she worked with in the Right Horse program!

Also in great news, the clinical trial Sedona has been participating in to treat her ocular squamous cell carcinoma has been an overwhelming success. The CSU team did not feel she needed any additional injections and the status of her eyes is back to a “precancerous” stage. This was described to us as the human equivalent of being in “remission.”

Sedona will have a routine follow-up in a few months and will still need to be continually watched for any signs the cancer is reoccurring, and continue to wear her UV protective mask during all daytime hours, all year round. Great things are happening for this wonderful girl and we are so excited to see all the progress she makes as she continues her training this summer.

A lovely mare with an easy temperament, Sedona will be a rewarding partner for her new person!

How to Adopt

2. We Get to Know You

We will contact you by phone so that you can ask any questions and we can discuss further about any prior experience with animals, your goals for an adopted animal, and a plan for your animal’s care.
This helps us find the best forever home for our animals.
We will also ask for two references whom we can contact regarding your experience with animals.

Fill out and submit an adoption interest form below.
This is the first step in the adoption process.

3. Meet-and-Greet

Our board of directors evaluates all applicants for adoption. We will schedule a meet-and-greet with the adopter we feel will be the best match for a given animal. This will take place at our Laramie, Wyoming location. A demonstration of the animal and a riding evaluation, if applicable, is typically involved in this step.

4. Completing the Adoption

If you and the animal are compatible, you will receive a contract from Mountain Shadows Equine Revival to fill out and sign. At this time, the full adoption fee is also due.

We will typically provide a Coggins certificate (horses) and will make arrangements for the brand inspector to come out when you pick up your animal (if applicable). Health certificates, if needed, can also be provided upon request for an additional fee.
